The Trivium/ Chapter 10/ A Brief Summary of Induction.
"The requirements of truth are: 1.) What is thought must represent what is (This is the norm of conception and of induction.) 2.) Thoughts must be consistent among themselves. (This is the norm of deduction.)"
- Sister Miriam Joseph, The Trivium.
The quote above is from this chapter, in which Joseph gives us here to takes on both deduction and induction. I have learned so far that both are necessary (as Joseph says as well) and that it is more of a recursive process which we use to get to truth. Theorists need great inductive capacities to develop their theories, but at the same time they also need great deductive capacities to sustain their theories above others.
